Folk Roots Radio Episode 629: We’re All About The Music! (Good To Be Back Edition)

We’re back with another hour of great new releases on Episode 629 of Folk Roots Radio. This time around we hear from Keb’ Mo’, The Strange Valentines, Le Vent Du Nord, Just A Season, Kenneth I Mackenzie, Jerry Leger, Big Little Lions, Kathy Mattea, Tim O’Brien, Cara Dillon, Katie Spencer and Yola. We also include musical tributes to two artists we sadly lost recently: Alberta based roots and blues artist Bill Bourne and Pastelle LeBlanc from Prince Edward Island Acadian folk trio Vishtèn. Remember, if you like what you hear on Folk Roots Radio… and want to support the artists… don’t just stream their music, BUY their music and then you’ll really make a difference to their income during this difficult time, when live show opportunities are harder to come by. Folk Roots Radio Episode 622: feat. Matt Patershuk – An Honest Effort & More New Releases

Alberta based storytelling singer-songwriter Matt Patershuk joins us on Episode 622 of Folk Roots Radio to chat about his latest album, “An Honest Effort”, which tells stories of people who are trying to make a go of it, despite life’s challenges – and who are not going to give up just because things get difficult. It’s a great album, and a fun conversation with a fine songwriter who writes songs that just can’t help but draw you in. As always, we wrap up the episode with more of the latest new releases and this time around we hear from Grace Morrison, Tim O’Brien, Jackson Grimm, Bryan McPherson, The Accidentals, Jessica Pearson & The East Wind, The Weather Station, Steve Poltz and The Pine Hearts. Folk Roots Radio Episode 392: feat. Peter Willie Youngtree & More New Releases

St John’s NL singer-songwriter Peter Willie Youngtree specializes in gritty thought-provoking country songs that he delivers with a wonderful world weary old time country voice that feels like it comes from another place and time. Peter Willie joins us on Episode 392 of Folk Roots Radio to chat about his forthcoming album “Musical Chairs” with his band The Blooms, the follow up to his critically acclaimed 2015 album “Country Hymns”. Peter Willie also plays three new songs live for us. It’s a great interview – definitely worth sticking around for. Folk Roots Radio Episode 372: Rosie & the Riveters and More New Releases

Alexis Normand from Saskatoon feminist vocal group Rosie and the Riveters joins us on Episode 372 of Folk Roots Radio to chat about their great new album “Ms. Behave”. Named after the World War 2 feminist labour icon, Rosie the Riveter – the band are a study in contrasts – three voices, the bright red lipstick, the curls, the post war dress, vintage harmonies and a sassy choreographed stage show – coupled with songs that whether playful or serious are deliberately intended to provoke, empower and inspire. It’s a great interview – well worth sticking around for. And, as always, we also check out more of the latest new releases including new music from Chris LaVancher, Joe Jencks, John McCutcheon, Catrin Finch & Seckou Keita, David Leask, Scott Anthony Andrews and Tom Rush. Check out the full playlist below.
