We’re changing things up on Episode 456 of Folk Roots Radio as we bring you London ON singer-songwriter Sarah Smith and her band live from an under renovation Bank Theatre in Leamington ON, as part of a wonderful session recorded for our video series, the Sun Parlour Coffee House Sessions. Four songs from a fabulous live performer and her band, and an opportunity to chat to Sarah while on stage. Mark Martyre, the prolific Toronto based writer and singer-songwriter with the Tom Waits like vocal delivery, joins us on Episode 368 of Folk Roots Radio to chat about his wonderful new album “Rivers”, which also features the talented vocals of Stacey Dowswell. Mark Martyre "Rivers" - Folk Roots Radio Interview

Prolific Toronto based writer and musician Mark Martyre has just released his latest collection, “Rivers” – his fifth full-length studio album since 2012, and following on from “Down, Record” (2012), “London” (2013), “Red Letters” (2014), “Bluebird” (2016), and several live recordings, and bootlegs. Mark’s also published a collection of his lyrics, spanning his music between 2012-2016. Rivers features ten new reflective Mark Martyre songs, with his characteristic Tom Waits like vocal delivery, some beautifully relaxed piano work and some lovely backing vocals from Stacey Dowswell. Also, joining Mark Martyre (guitar, vocals & harmonica) on the album are Darrin Baldwin (piano), Matt Antaya (electric guitar), Graydon James (drums), Jason Lapidus (bass), Ed Michael Roth (accordion), and Raha Javanfar (violin). Rivers was recorded in Toronto at the Lincoln County Social Club with John Dinsmore. We caught up with Mark Martyre in Toronto to chat about the new album. This week’s Folk Roots Radio featured another interview recorded at the Folk Music Ontario conference this past October. On this episode we talk to Owen Sound based folk, pop and jazz singer Coco Love Alcorn about her music and forthcoming album ‘The Spirit Sessions’.
