We’ve already released our Top Ten albums of 2017 – you can find those on Episode 356 of Folk Roots Radio. This time around we tackle ‘The Next Fifteen’ with an episode featuring some of our favourite tracks from those albums. It’s a great privilege to bring lots of great music and interviews to you each week on Folk Roots Radio, something we’re looking forward to continuing to do throughout 2018. Well, it’s that time of year – time to run down our favourite albums of 2017. One of the best things about doing a radio show is that you get loads of great music to audition each week. One of the hardest things to do, though, is to take all that great music and narrow it down to your ten favourite recordings of the year. As someone who loves to make best of lists, it’s a fun thing to do, and, if, by doing that, I can expose people to new music they may not have heard, so much the better. We’re up in Owen Sound ON on Episode 340 of Folk Roots Radio as we check out the fabulous Youth Discoveries showcase at Summerfolk Music & Crafts Festival. We’re bringing you interviews with two young duos – Moscow Apartment and Bare Sierra alongside music from the other performers who made it through the audition process to perform on the big stage at the festival. Gregger Botting is a young singer-songwriter from Petrolia Ontario who just released his first full length album, “Never Saw A Thing Coming”. Earlier this year, Gregger Botting joined us in the studio to record an edition of the video series, the Sun Parlour Coffee House Sessions. We’re pleased to bring our interview with Gregger to Episode 339 of Folk Roots Radio alongside a couple of live songs from his debut album. Episode 205 of Folk Roots Radio features interviews with two fabulous singer-songwriters – Ian Foster from St. Johns NF and Australian (but no stranger to Guelph), David Ross MacDonald. They’ll be sharing the stage, and swopping songs and stories at the great Guelph listening venue Silence on Thursday July 30. It promises to be a great night. I hope you’ll consider joining us! Episode 203 of Folk Roots Radio featured an interview and impromptu session with Edmonton Alberta’s Rebecca Lappa recorded at the Folk Music Ontario Conference this past October. Though still just a teenager, Rebecca is already a prolific songwriter, having written over 200 songs in her career so far. All four of the albums she has released to date have been nominated for a Canadian Folk Music Award for “Young Performer of the Year”. Her most recent album, 2014’s “Ode to Tennyson” uses as its source material, the collected works of English poet Alfred, Lord Tennyson. Rebecca shows amazing drive for someone so young. It’s a great interview and definitely worth checking out. As usual, we also included a good selection of new music alongside our mystery theme and guilty pleasure.
