Folk Roots Radio Episode 389: Hillside 2018 Preview

We’re getting set for the 2018 Hillside Festival on Episode 389 of Folk Roots Radio. This year’s festival takes place the weekend of July 13-15 at beautiful Guelph Lake, just outside Guelph, in Southern Ontario. Each year, Hillside – a true community festival, brings together a line-up that promises something for everyone, and this year is no exception. This episode features some of the artists we’re looking forward to catching at the festival including A Tribe Called Red, Jeremy Dutcher, Iskwé, Cris Derksen, nêhiyawak, Cécile Doo-Kingué, Martin Harley, Les Tireux d’Roches, Poor Man’s Whiskey, The Slocan Ramblers, Ken Whiteley, Fortunate Ones, Jeremy Fisher, Sarah MacDougall and Annie Sumi. Summerfolk 2016 – The Line-Up

The 41st annual Summerfolk Music and Crafts Festival takes place August 19-21, in Kelso Park, on the shores of Georgian Bay, in Owen Sound. The festival features more than 40 musical acts from across Canada and across the world representing genres from folk, country and bluegrass, to blues, to hip-hop and funk.  Like any great folk festival they also have lots of children’s activities, community workshops, artisan booths, dozens of food vendors… and two licensed areas. The grande dame of Canadian Folk Festivals, the Mariposa Folk Festival is getting set for it’s 56th edition which takes place the weekend of July 8-10  2016, in beautiful Tudhope Park in Orillia, on the shores of Lake Couchiching. Folk Roots Radio Episode 204: Hillside Festival 2015

This week’s Folk Roots Radio focuses on the upcoming Hillside Festival, taking place from July 24-26 at Guelph Lake. The show features interviews with Hillside Artistic Director Sam Baijal and Chris McKhool, the leader of the Hillside-bound Sultans of String. Hillside has something for everyone – a great mix of music, fabulous community workshops, a dedicated children’s area, an artisan village and great food… and there are still some weekend and day passes available. This week’s Folk Roots Radio features an excerpt of an interview with singer-songwriter and poet Miss Emily Brown recorded at the Folk Music Ontario conference this past October. Emily lives on the beautiful Quadra Island off the eastern coast of Vancouver Island in B.C. Emily chats with us about her home and her music and sings a couple of new songs live accompanying herself on tenor guitar. You can listen to the full interview here. Like last week, the show also contains a lot of new music and, as usual, a new mystery theme and guilty pleasure.
