Nicolas and The Iceni

One of the best things about doing a radio show, is hearing about some exciting new music from unexpected quarters.

Via the wonders of an internet message to our Facebook page, I’ve found out about Nicolas and The Iceni, a folk band from Hebden Bridge in the U.K.

Dubbed the “New Nick Drake” by Alan Raw on BBC Radio. singer-songwriter Nicolas Chapman founded Nicolas and the Iceni in 2007 with the aim of bringing together English folk and American bluegrass/country musicians as an international folk fusion. They released their debut album, Narrow Road to the Deep North via ‘cult’ British label Holyground Records and are currently working on their second album, Roll Right, to be released in May 2014. The band portrays understated organic, intimate and well-balanced soundscapes, gravitating around the “skin and bones” structures of the acoustic guitars and enriched by other elements: harmonica, cello, violin, flute, double bass, percussion and vocal harmonies.
