Folk Roots Radio Episode 577: feat. Loretta Hagen - Not Now & More New Releases

Loretta Hagen is a wonderful singer-songwriter with a warm rich alto voice and the ability to write personal songs that tap into a lot of what we are all feeling. She released a fine fourth album, “Lucky Stars”, in 2017; a recording that takes you on a personal journey through loss and healing while leaving you with the promise of hope for better times ahead. In fact, it might be the perfect album to be listening to during Covid times. Loretta Hagen joins us on Episode 577 of Folk Roots Radio to chat about her music, and great new single “Not Now”, which was written during coronavirus lockdown. As usual, we wrap up the rest of the episode with more new releases, and this time around we hear from Lisa Jeanette, Brendan Scott Friel, Terri Clark, Mike Plume, Olivier Demers, Nelson Sobral, Rosemary Lawton, Rose Cousins and Jeffery Straker. Check out the full playlist below.

Interview

Loretta Hagen has built a great reputation for the quality of her songwriting, and vocal delivery. The new Jersey based singer-songwriter released a fine fourth album, “Lucky Stars”, in 2017. Loretta has just followed up that album with a wonderful new single that reflects on the impact that the coronavirus pandemic has been having on individuals, families and communities – and like much of her songwriting, includes a strong message of hope.

“Each day I would hear news stations report the heartbreaking stories of people alone in hospitals around the world fighting for their lives without a loved one at their side. I can only imagine the terror for them. So many stories of loss: loss of life, loss of jobs, homes, loneliness. Normal life simply gone. But in all of that overwhelming despair and loss, there were also stories of survival.”

That’s all we have time for. Thanks to all the artists who share their music with us, and thank you for listening. We have lots of great music and interviews to bring you on future episodes.

If you enjoy the music we play on this show and want to support the artists – many of whom aren’t able to play live at the moment because of the Covid-19 pandemic, don’t just stream their music – that earns them much less than a penny per play. Instead, buy their music – and really make a difference to their income. They’ll love you for it!
