Folk Roots Radio Episode 554: Piper & Carson In Conversation - Edgewalker's Remedy

We have another very special interview to bring you on Episode 554 of Folk Roots Radio. Hamilton ON based duo Piper Hayes & Carson Ritcey Thorpe who make music together as Piper & Carson, join us to chat about their wonderful new recording “Edgewalker’s Remedy” –  a concept album specifically designed to provoke reflection about our lives and what we all take for granted. Piper & Carson definitely walk the talk, and firmly believe that folk music can change the world. They describe their work as deeply rooted in intention and both have a strong desire to use their platform to promote social change and self-awareness. So, settle down and enjoy Piper & Carson in Conversation – Edgewalker’s Remedy on Folk Roots Radio. Check out the full playlist below.

Interview

Edgewalker’s Remedy is actually Piper & Carson‘s first official release as a duo, although Piper Hayes’ first full length album “Piper & Carson” was also very much a duo project. They describe their new album as a collection of songs that will help disarm the listener and nudge them towards healing, to asking questions and reclaiming their power and joy.

Edgewalker’s Remedy is very much a pandemic recording as none of the people involved in the making of the album spent any time together in the studio. The new album was co-produced by Piper & Carson with Chris Bartos , who also brought his own multi-instrumentalist skills to the project. Also joining Piper & Carson on the album are Oisin Hannigan (percussion), The Rough & Tumble (Mallory Graham & Scott Tyler), Annie Sumi (background vocals), Travis Knapp (banjo, background vocals) and Lacey Hill (background vocals).

As well as a CD and digital download, Piper & Carson have also created a very nice lyric book – what they describe as a Book for Adult Children, to accompany the album. The book also features illustrations from Riley Bee – a two-spirit Métis from treaty 6 whose art focuses on the natural world, animal and spirit realms, and social/environmental issues.

Piper & Carson joined us in the studio late last year to record an episode of the Sun Parlour Coffee House Sessions. You can find that session and 49 others on our website at sunparloursessions.com.

That’s all we have time for. Thanks to all the artists who share their music with us, and thank you for listening. We have lots of great music and interviews to bring you on future episodes.

If you enjoy the music we play on this show and want to support the artists – many of whom aren’t able to play live at the moment because of the Covid-19 pandemic, don’t just stream their music – that earns them much less than a penny per play. Instead, buy their music – and really make a difference to their income. They’ll love you for it!
