Interview

Bill Garrett has been involved in the music business for over 40 years. Starting out as a singer-songwriter, Bill went on to work at the CBC for 18 years, co-hosting Sylvia Tyson’s folk program Touch the Earth and later producing The Entertainers and Six Days on the Road with musician-host David Essig. Since leaving the CBC in the mid-1990s, Bill has produced more than 75 folk, blues and jazz recordings and in 1996 founded Borealis Records with fellow musicians Grit Laskin, Paul Mills and Ken Whiteley. Bill Garrett is also part of a wonderful folk duo with partner Sue Lothrop. Bill Garrett sat down with Folk Roots Radio at the 2019 Folk Music Ontario conference for an in-depth conversation about his career in music.

Folk Roots Radio (formerly Royal City Rag) debuted on CFRU 93.3fm in August 2005 before developing into a syndicated radio show. As the host of Folk Roots Radio, Jan focuses on bringing new folk, roots and blues music and the voices of upcoming and independent artists to the airwaves.
