Folk Roots Radio Episode 431: In Conversation with… David Storey
We’re giving over the whole of Episode 431 of Folk Roots Radio to an in-depth conversation with singer-songwriter David Storey. David Storey is probably best known as the executive producer and director of iconic Canadian comedy series and movie Corner Gas, but he’s also a pretty good songwriter. He’s just released his new album “made in Canada”, the follow-up to 2015’s “Coming Home”, one of our favourite albums of that year. David also plays four songs from the new album live in the studio. It’s a great interview – well-worth sticking around for. Check out the full playlist below.
Interview
“made in Canada” is David Storey’s third album since he resurrected his music career in 2011, and the first to feature his new backing band, ‘The Side Road Scholars’. The Side Road Scholars are Henry Lees (backing vocals, percussion), Howard Rabkin (bass, backing vocals), Bob Cohen (acoustic/electric guitars, mandolin) and Lawrie Ingles (keyboards, backing vocals).
made in Canada was co-produced with Darryl Neudorf (Neko Case, The Weather Station), and recorded live off the floor at Operation Northwood studios. The new album features nine songs about family, relationships, work woes, the beauty that surrounds Regina SK and hockey. Although David called the new album made in Canada, it’s very much a small ‘c’ Canadian album featuring stories about real people and real lives that, like all David Storey songs, really connect with the listener.

David Storey and The Side Road Scholars will be playing Erin Roots, the live music series put on by community station Erin Radio, at the Busholme Inn, Erin ON on March 23 2019.
