Episode 278: Red Dirt Skinners

The Red Dirt Skinners, the fantastic roots duo from Sussex in England with the big sound, who have been taking the British roots scene by storm, are back on tour in Ontario and Quebec this fall. Sarah and Rob Skinner joined us in the Folk Roots Radio studio earlier this year for an in-depth conversation about their music and latest album “Behind the Wheel”. We’re pleased to bring an excerpt from that interview to you on this episode.  And, as usual, we also find time to take a look at some of the latest new releases.

The Red Dirt Skinners feature Sarah Skinner on soprano sax, and multi-instrumentalist Rob Skinner on guitar and vocals. They became the first band to succeed at both the British Blues Awards and the British Country Music Awards, and they’ve also recently been nominated for an Americana award. Live, they are an intoxicating mix of high energy and divine harmonies, producing music that is original, unique and genre-defying as they effortlessly cross boundaries from blues, to country, to folk and all places in between.

You can catch the Red Dirt Skinners in Windsor at the Olde Walkerville Theatre on Friday September 30, at the Cuckoo’s Nest Folk Club in London on Thursday October 6, and Hugh’s Room in Toronto on Friday October 7.
