About Jan Hall
After a 25 year veterinary career culminating in a tenured university professorship, Jan Hall has returned to her passion, music and radio.
These days, Jan is an award-winning radio and video broadcaster and sought after stage host/festival emcee. As the host of Folk Roots Radio, Jan focuses on bringing new folk, roots and blues music and the voices of upcoming and independent artists to the airwaves.
Jan started in Radio in 1993 at WEFT 90.1fm in Champaign-Urbana, Illinois. After moving to Canada, Folk Roots Radio (formerly Royal City Rag) debuted on CFRU 93.3fm in Guelph, Ontario in August 2005.
Since that time, Folk Roots Radio has grown into a syndicated radio show, currently airing on ten different radio stations.
In 2019, Jan received Folk Music Ontario‘s prestigious Estelle Klein Award for her contribution to Ontario’s folk music community.

Jan helped Leamington musician and community booster Dale Butler host his coffee house from September 2016 – February 2020. Dale Butler started Dale’s Friday Coffee House in 2008 to provide an opportunity for local and not-so-local musicians to share their music in front of a supportive audience. It currently takes place at The Bank Theatre in Leamington. Photo: Michelle Fortier.
