Clela Errington – In The Studio

Toronto-based singer-songwriter Clela Errington joined us in the studio for an in-depth interview and some live songs on Folk Roots Radio Overtime on CFRU 93.3fm on May 2. In 2014, Clela released “More Love & Happiness”, one of our favourite albums of the year. This is what we said about the album at the time: “The freshness of the songwriting, beautiful harmonies (with daughter Jocelyn Barth), tasteful production from Alec Fraser and the varied musical styles makes it a joy for the ears. That we were unfamiliar with Clela’s work made it all that much more special to share her musical talent on air. Her music deserves to be heard and savoured.” Clela and I had a great conversation, and the live songs we’re just fabulous. Enjoy. Music: Clela Errington, “More Love & Happiness” from “More Love & Happiness” (2014, Self); Clela Errington “Home On High” (Live); Clela Errington “Shoulder To Lean On” (Live); Clela Errington “White Dove” from “More Love & Happiness” (2014, Self); Clela Errington “Country Squall” (Willie P. Bennett) (Live);  Clela Errington “Got To Make A Change Blues” (Memphis Minnie) (Live), Clela Errington “Angels on the Radio” (Band Mix) from “More Love & Happiness” (2014, Self).

This week’s Folk Roots Radio (Episode 179) featured our favourite albums of 2014. As you can imagine, it wasn’t easy to narrow down all the great albums we’ve played over the past year to just ten, but that’s what we’ve done. If you check out the post about The Best Albums of 2014 we’ve also included the next five as honourable mentions. As usual, there was lots of new music on offer including some original holiday tunes, as well as a new mystery theme and guilty pleasure.

The Best Albums Of 2014

So here they are… my ten favourite albums of 2014. As you can imagine, it wasn’t easy to narrow this list down to the Top 10 which is why I’ve included the next five as honourable mentions. And to be honest, any of the albums in that group could easily have made it into my Best of 2014 on a different day. Indeed, I could easily have included another five after that… and another five after that, but I needed to draw a line somewhere which I duly did.

Clela Errington

One of the pleasant things about programming a radio show is that every now and again an album crosses your desk, from someone you’ve never heard of, that really makes you sit up and take notice. That happened again a couple of weeks ago when “More Love and Happiness” the latest album by Toronto based singer-songwriter Clela Errington arrived in the mail. Very rootsy, a bit jazzy with some interesting world beat influences thrown in; its become an instant hit on this show. We were so pleased to finally hook up with Clela for an interview. The good news is that she will be in the area on Saturday March 29 2014 for a show at Music in the Wood Rockwood at 8:00 p.m.
