Folk Roots Radio Episode 579: feat. Jeffrey Straker - Just Before Sunrise & More New Releases

Jeffrey Straker joins us on Episode 579 of Folk Roots Radio to chat about his great new album “Just Before Sunrise”.  Jeffrey landed on our radar last year, and since then we’ve played pretty much everything we’ve been sent. We’re definitely big fans of his piano driven songwriting. As always we wrap up the episode with more new releases, and this time around we’ve decided to stay in Canada as we bring you new music from Kristen Martell, Tania Joy, the august arrival, Last Birds, Grosse Isle, Rob Lutes, Kat Danser and William Kuklis. Check out the full playlist below.

Interview

A classically trained pianist, Regina SK based singer-songwriter Jeffrey Straker‘s latest album “Just Before Sunrise” was written and recorded in the wake of the sudden loss of his mother – the songs on the album speaking to a life long need to dream, to belong and to matter. The tone of the album is very much one of deep reflection, but also infused with hope and joy.

A clever lyricist with an energetic piano style, Jeffrey Straker songs have been used in TV, film and theatre productions. Critical comparisons have been drawn to the likes of Harry Chapin, Billy Joel and Carole King, while developing a style that’s all his own.

Best 2020

That’s all we have time for. Thanks to all the artists who share their music with us, and thank you for listening. We have lots of great music and interviews to bring you on future episodes.

If you enjoy the music we play on this show and want to support the artists – many of whom aren’t able to play live at the moment because of the Covid-19 pandemic, don’t just stream their music – that earns them much less than a penny per play. Instead, buy their music – and really make a difference to their income. They’ll love you for it!
