We’re all about the music on this edition of Folk Roots Radio. We have lots of interviews to bring you, but we’re going to hold off on those this time round, so we can bring you some of the best new releases.
Summerfolk runs from August 20-23 in Kelso Park on the shores of Georgian Bay in Owen Sound. This year they are celebrating their 40th anniversary with a bumper edition, and kicking it all off with a birthday blues bash featuring Matt Andersen and MonkeyJunk on Thursday August 20 from 7 p.m. The festival features more than 40 musical acts including Trout Fishing in America, David Francey, Samantha Martin & Delta Sugar, Whitehorse, Joel Plaskett and Claire Lynch (International Bluegrass Music Association Vocalist of the Year).
Canadian powerhouse blues performer Matt Andersen returns to the Hillside Festival this year. Matt released his latest album “Weightless” this past February. Matt is currently on the summer festival circuit in North America, and before heading to Europe for a tour of the UK, Ireland and the Netherlands this fall, we caught up with him at his home in New Brunswick. Folk Roots Radio on April 19 2014 (Episode 146) included a couple of interesting interviews – Mark Logan from Encore Records in Kitchener discussing Record Store Day and Sam Baijal, Artistic Director at the Hillside Festival discussing the performers appearing at Hillside 2014.
Matt Anderson plays Massey Hall with David Myles on March 1 2014. Matt’s latest release, “Weightless”, was recorded in Halifax with Grammy-winning producer Steve Berlin. The album features co-writes with Joel Plaskett, David Myles, Dave Gunning, Tom Wilson and Keith Mullins.
