Folk Roots Radio Episode 298: We’re All About The Music

There are no interviews in this hour of Folk Roots Radio, as we play catch up on some of the best of the new music we’ve received over the past few months. There’s lots of great music out there, and as we’re all about the music, we’re pleased to do our bit to share it with you.

NEW RELEASES

We started the hour with one of the most distinctive voices in folk music, John McCutcheon, who’s just about to release his 38th album, “Trolling For Dreams” (2017, Appalsongs), an album that features songs about love, loss, aging, hope and renewal. On this episode we play “Y’all Means All”, a song written after the passing of the infamous North Carolina “bathroom bill”, that speaks to the need to build an inclusive society that respects the rights of everyone. We’ll bring you more tracks from the album on future shows.

We also heard from Jennifer Cutting’s Ocean Orchestra, who deliver British style folk music through an American lens on “Waves”, an album that takes as it’s source material – changing seasons, life’s ups and downs and transitions. The track “She” we play on this episode features the great Clive Gregson on acoustic guitar and Lisa Moscatiello on vocals.

“Fires Fires Fires” is a new single from Gravenhurst Ontario’s environmentalist and singer/songwriter Bet Smith with The Currie Brothers and written around the time of the wildfires that devastated part of Fort McMurray Alberta in 2016. You can check out the video that accompanies the song HERE.

And that’s all we have time for this time around. Thanks to all the artists who share their music with us, and thank you for listening. We have a lot of great music and interviews to bring you on future shows. I hope you’ll join us!
