Episode 142: Ondine Chorus & Joni Nehrita

Folk Roots Radio on March 22 2014 (Episode 142) featured two interviews. During the first hour, Sue Smith and Shannon Kingsbury from The Ondine Chorus joined us to chat about their new E.P. “Towards A Little Light”. Their album launch takes place on Saturday March 29 at 2 p.m. in Guelph at the Macdonald Stewart Art Centre. Later in the show, singer-songwriter Joni Nehrita joined us to talk about her varied musical interests, including her new jazz-styled (download) E.P. “Beginnings”. The Joni Nehrita Quintet play The Guelph Black Heritage Society, Essex St in Guelph on March 29 at 8 p.m.

Our Mystery Theme was “Spring” which was a bit of a stretch based on the wintery weather we are still experiencing. However, we hope you enjoyed the six songs we pulled together.

For this week’s Guilty Pleasure we had a request for Jimi Hendrix’s “Voodoo Child” – Thanks Chris Saunders for the suggestion! We tweaked things a little (to suit the early hour) by playing the Harry Manx live version from The Live At The Glenn Gould Studio (2008) album featuring Harry on banjo, Kevin Breit on electric guitar, George Koller on bass, Steve Marriner on harmonica with additional vocals from Ravi Naimpally and Samidha Joglekjar.

We’d love to hear from you if you have a Guilty Pleasure to share. Remember, a Guilty Pleasure is that song you still love even though you think others may find it unfashionable. You’ll be surprised how many people love it too!.

If you have a guilty pleasure you’d like to share – that song you still love though you think other people would find it unfashionable (believe me, they won’t), get in touch. We’d love to play it for you! And, if you have a good story about why you love that song, so much the better.

We hope you enjoyed the show. We’ll see you next week!
