The Folkin’ Cat’s Meow
Thank you so much your interest in the The Folkin’ Cat’s Meow Private Showcase room at the 2017 Folk Music Ontario conference taking place October 19-22, 2017, at the Hilton Toronto Airport Hotel & Suites, 5875 Airport Road, Mississauga, ON.
We had a mountain of applications to process and regrettably we were unable to proceed with all of the applications as only 22 slots were available.
Please reach out to Jan if you would like an opportunity for a radio interview, if you haven’t already done so. She does have limited time.
Keep making music, come say hi at Folk Music Ontario, and enjoy the conference.
All the best,
Jan and Michelle
The Folkin’ Cat’s Meow
The Folkin’ Cat’s Meow private showcase room is coming back to the Folk Music Ontario conference, taking place October 19-22, 2017, at the Hilton Toronto Airport Hotel & Suites, 5875 Airport Road, Mississauga, ON.
FMO Private Showcases take place in hotel rooms at the conference after the official showcases on Friday, October 20 and Saturday, October 21, 2017.
The Folkin’ Cat’s Meow private showcase room is facilitated by Jan Hall from Folk Roots Radio and Michelle Fortier of Michelle Fortier Publicity. This year, The Folkin’ Cat’s Meow will be offering performance slots at 20-minute intervals from 11:20 pm – 2:20 am, ending at 2:40 am.
Criteria For Participation
Although we do not have specific criteria to play in the Folkin’ Cat’s Meow room we do encourage you to apply if you have a new album to promote, or are readying an album for release in 2018, or are a newcomer to the Folk Music Ontario conference.
As we always get more applications than there are slots available, we can’t guarantee you’ll get to play the room – however, we’d still love to hear from you.
Please note that this year we have instituted a $20 charge per set to help offset the administrative costs related to running the room.
FMO Private Showcase Rules
FMO stipulates that that ALL PRIVATE SHOWCASES ARE ACOUSTIC. The use of P.A. systems (including vocal mics!) and drum kits (i.e., ANY drum on a stand) is NOT permitted. The use of hand percussion / a hand-held drum with brushes is permitted provided it does not disrupt any other Private Showcases or disturb any other patrons or guests of the Hotel. Electronic keyboards, electric basses, and guitar pedal loops may use amplifiers with the sole intent of hearing a signal at the level of the unamplified human voice. Volume levels are subject to the discretion of FMO and the Hotel. Their rulings are final in all cases.
Please note that if the volume level in any Private Showcase room is deemed to be unreasonable, the host and/or artist(s) playing will be given ONE warning to lower volume, and in the event of non-compliance, the room will be SHUT DOWN without recourse.
Your cooperation in following these rules is appreciated.
Please note that we must provide the complete lineup, with the names of all band members playing in our room and ensure that everyone who is playing in our private showcase room is registered for the conference.
How To Apply
Please send us a 50-75 word bio, links to your music, links to social media including a youtube video, high res photo, names of each performer in the group, your band name, and please confirm that each of you are registered for the entire conference or registered as a side player per FMO rules. A $20 fee is to be paid immediately upon approval of your application to perform in the room (for your convenience, a Paypal link will be provided).
DEADLINE TO APPLY: MONDAY SEPTEMBER 4TH at MIDNIGHT
What We Will Do For You
As part of the conference build up, we will be making your bio and contact information available through the Folk Roots Radio website, and a full social media campaign will be instituted by Michelle Fortier to promote the event, including your bio, contact information and performance slot. We will also be creating posters for the hotel, and putting an advertisement in the FMO program. There may also be the opportunity to tape an audio interview with Jan Hall for Folk Roots Radio.
What We Expect From You
We want your performance in our room to create as much buzz as possible. With that in mind, we’d like to encourage you to create your own conference poster and add our showcase room#28 and your time slot. Also, please share our social media posts on your social media sites and tag us. Play by the rules of Folk Music Ontario. In this way, we all benefit, by being allowed to do this on a yearly basis. Support the artists in the room by coming early and staying after your slot. Be on time for your time slot, be mindful of tearing down quickly & quietly for the next group. Bring your merch and CDs for us to display at the showcase for you. Invite your friends, fans, peers, and promoters to our showcase room to hear you and create your own Facebook event. Above all, let’s have fun and enjoy great music!
Once you have been approved to perform in The Folkin’ Cat’s Meow Private Showcase Room at FMO 2017, we ask for a one-time payment of $20.00 to help cover our costs. We will send you a Paypal link to facilitate this.
Thank you – we’re excited you will be joining us!
